Gayle Weisfield grew up on a ranch located on a parcel of Pacific Northwest
paradise. Every morning Gayle arose to a dramatic panorama laid before her. The
colors of the seasons, the ever changing light and shadow play on the mountains
and river in the distance has informed her art throughout her creative career. As a
schoolgirl of 11, Gayle was introduced to painting in watercolors by an elementary
teacher. She was immediately captivated by the creative process, discovering a love
and talent for painting that has since defined her and directed her life. By age 20
Gayle was showing her art and teaching watercolor workshops. In the ensuing years
Gayle traveled extensively adding to her experience, honing her skills. And although
her life and career has been varied and fascinating she is first and foremost an artist.
She has presented her work in art shows nationally and internationally. Her original
pieces are found in private collections and galleries around the world. She has been
selected in juried competitions as one of the best of her peers. Gayle shares her gift
with aspiring watercolorists by holding retreats introducing hundreds of artists to
the medium of watercolor, imparting her intense relationship with nature and the
joy of the process of artistic expression.
Gayle loves the fast pace and challenge that comes with working in the wet
watercolor style. However, she consistently challenges her limits, reinterpreting and
varying her technique. The fresh, direct approach, strong design and bold value
patterns of her watercolors seem to best translate what she feels when interpreting
the beauty of the West’s majestic landscape and historic past.
